I was planning on a longer post on how to find specific stats with Analytics but it’s becoming overwhelming. Attacking it in small chunks is probably the way to go. Let me know if you have any specific stat questions like Laura.

I’ve been using Google Analytics for a while, but one thing I can’t figure out – how the heck do you tell what time people are coming to your blog?
-Laura (The Pursuit of Healthyness)

Laura,

This one stumped me for a bit too. It’s not as intuitive as it should be. Analytics only has a few categories.

  • Visitors – Information about your readers.
  • Traffic Sources – How readers find you.
  • Content – What are people reading.
  • Goals – Your user defined goals.
google analtics navigation to visits

So in this case we are looking for information about out Visitors, specifically their "Visits".

To do that Click on…

  • Visitors
  • then Visitor Trending
  • then Visits.

You will then see a report that says "Visits for All Visitors". (A little redundant if you ask me.) This report is showing you your daily visitors for the time period you have defined.

Here’s a sample chart showing Roni’s Weigh visitors for the month of January. (click on the image to see full size)

google analytics chart for visits by day

Not that impressive as you can get your daily visitors visitors on the dashboard. However, there is something new on this chart you may not have noticed.

google analytics chart - vitits by hour

That little "graph by" icon changes the data to show you "by hour" instead of "by day". Click it and Viola! You get this…

Now you can see hour by hour when visitors visit your site.

Like I said, not the most intuitive navigation but all the data’s there!

Let me know if you have any other questions! Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for this tutorial. It was very helpful to me. I’ve wondered how to find this information for a while now.

    Roni!
You have been such a help so far, but I was wondering if you could post on how to create multiple pages on a blog? I would like to create a header with multiple pages such as you have with “About,”Home”,”Clients”,”Contact.” Thanks!
